I don't doubt that in those specialized companies and support groups there are many, many people who want to and ought to know more about the processes of producing oil and gas . . . . This book by Leffler and Raymond is a broad leap across the gap between the mysteries of production operations and the need for better understanding by those who help make it happen.

About the Author
Dr. William L. Leffler, a retired executive from Royal Dutch/Shell, spent 36 years with that company. During his career he spent time in refining and marketing, petrochemicals, and corporate planning in the United States, and in exploration and production in London. He earned his MBA and PHD at New York University, and a BS at MIT. He has authored multiple PennWell titles including the bestselling Petroleum Refining in Nontechnical Language, 4th Edition (2008), Petrochemicals in Nontechnical Language, 4th Edition (2010), and Deepwater Petroleum Exploration & Production: A Nontechnical Guide, 2nd Edition (2011).
Martin S. Raymond, a veteran of more than 40 years in exploration and production, was senior vice-president - E&P for J.M. Huber Corporation. During his career he also held engineering, administrative, and management positions with Shell Oil and Forest Oil. He earned a BA degree from Princeton in geology and a masters degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Currently, Raymond consults in the area of operating process management for E & P companies.

The best overview I have read to date

Explains O&G production in simple, understandable terms. Critical reading for anyone working with the oil & gas industry in a support role. Begins with a history of exploration and production, and moves on to basic geology (actually inportant to understanding the O&G indutsry) and to some light chemistry, and finally production processes. Great book.

I've been tasked by our firm to start writing the P+C cases for several of our existing clients that have operations in this business. Being a financial advisor for over 2 decades....this is really a totally new thing for me. This book is great at breaking down the basics of all the various stages in the oil and gas process.

Ideal for anyone who works in a non-production capacity in the business. This book has already helped me make better sense of my role, purpose, and priorities in supporting an oil and gas production company.
