About the Author
Dr. Naeim has over 25 years practice in bone marrow pathology with several years of experience in flow cytometry. He is the author of numerous research articles and an established Elsevier author. He is a hematopathologist and an internationally known expert in pathology of bone marrow disorders. He is currently the Head of Hematopathology and the Director of Hematopathology Fellowship program at David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA.

Good reference book

I am a general anatomic pathologist working in all types of cases. Recently, I had a strange case of skin biopsy. Clinically, dermatologist thought that this 1.5 cm plaque could be BCC or SCC. Histologically there is a heavy lymphoid infiltration in the dermis without epidermal involvement. My initial impression is benign lymphoid hyperplasia because the histology shows some centrocytes and centroblasts like cells in the background of small mature lymphocytes with several normal follicles. The pattern is not commensurate with the common cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Anyway, I ordered an initial immuno panel to exclude epithelial lesion and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. The result confirms that this is a lymphoid proliferative lesion but not a T-cell lymphoma. More immunostains point it out that this may be a B-cell lesion because lesional cells are diffusely and intensely positive for CD20. I had a 2001 version of WHO Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues which did not cover this entity. Fortunately my institution has the most recent version (2013) of Atlas of Hematopathology, in which there is a Chapter (40) "Primary Cutaneous B-cell lymphomas". I read the book and found what I missed. I missed irregular and "inside-out" follicles, which could be a red flag for malignancy other than benign hyperplasia. With the aide of the full immuno panel and cytogenetic studies (IgH and Igkappa gene arrangement with normal Iglampda), final diagnosis of "Primary Cutaneous Follicle Center Lymphoma" was made. The case was sent to an expert consultant who concurs with the diagnosis. Another case was a patient with hx of Hodgkin lymphoma and new finding of jejunal mass. Clinical DDX include carcinoma vs. Hodgkin lymphoma. Guess what, final diagnosis is "Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma of GC type". Although I have many years of experience as a general anatomic pathologist, this book really helps me to reach a higher level in the field of lymphoma diagnosis and avoid potential pitfalls, which may have significant adverse consequencies for both the patient and the pathologist. I highly recommend this book to my colleagues and residents.

A very valuable resource on Egyptian royal women

This book is the first volume of a planned two-volume, limited update to Callender’s doctoral thesis, which covered the King’s Wives and King’s Mothers through the 17th Dynasty. Here, she limits her study to the Old Kingdom. We can only hope she will continue the series and update through the New Kingdom as the royal women, with a few well-known exceptions, have not been studied and published as fully as they deserve. (And many of the existing works are in French or German or are not obtainable by the general public.) As it is, Callender appears to be planning on providing only a second volume on the Old Kingdom.

This first volume lists, in what she calls the “register,” all the known wives and mothers in an essentially chronological order, as best as that can be determined. Virtually all that is known about each woman, including her titles, her relationship to the king, her burial, and iconography is detailed. Photographs of objects and site plans are often provided. In many cases, what we know is sadly limited and often open to interpretation. Callender discusses the latest research and various theories and is quite clear on what is fact and what is supposition and with whom and why she agrees or disagrees. A bibliography follows each woman’s entry.

In addition to the “register,” Callender includes an “interim summary” of the monuments, titles and iconography. This is very helpful, especially since the book has a limited index. Although labeled an “index of Egyptian names,” there are some other rather random entries in the index. However, it is very far from complete. This would be a more serious flaw without the summary.

The second volume, forthcoming at this time, is promised to include a more in-depth discussion of the topics covered in the interim summary. I very much look forward to that second volume.

There is also a separate fold-out chart of the women and their titles, which was very handy for reference.

As is usual with the Charles University in Prague publications, the illustrations are good quality. The cover of the book is absolutely stunning.

I do have complaints about the general design and layout of the book. The register is not well laid-out. Each new entry for a new queen is not prominent enough. The woman’s name is listed in bold print, but there should be more space between entries and the name should stand out more. It would be nice if following pages also included the woman’s name for easy identification. Some names begin at or near the bottom of the page, and it is easy to miss them when leafing through looking for a particular person.

There are also quite a few sloppy editing errors in the text, phrases like, “there is no references to her,” or “she might have been married to the vizier . . . . He could have been her husband.” Did no one proofread this book? The only relevant error I found was a reference to Figure 117 that should be Figure 119. I have not checked any of her references to other works.

All in all, a very valuable reference, and I look forward to, at the very least, the second volume.

A much needed addition to scholarly research

The first of two volumes on the royal women of Egypt's early periods, Dr. Callender's study is an major contribution to the history of Egypt's royal families. The author's approach is meticulous and extensively annotated. She reviews what others have said and makes clear her points of agreement and disagreement. About the Author
Ann Scheck McAlearney, Sc.D., is an Assistant Professor on the Ohio State University faculty in Health Services Management and Policy. She holds Bachelor's degrees in Biological Sciences and English from Stanford University, a Master's degree in Biological Sciences from Stanford University and a Doctorate in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University. Professor McAlearney teaches courses in Health Services Organizational Management, Strategic Management and Program Development, and Leadership in Health Care.

Dr. McAlearney's general research interests include the areas of outcomes research, population health management, and examining organizational and physician decision-making in the area of care management. Her publications cover areas such as access to care, satisfaction with care, disease management and population health management, information technology, cost-effectiveness of new technologies, and quality measurement. She is especially interested in how health services research findings are applied in health care organizations and how the reporting of health care outcomes and quality measures can be used to improve both care delivery and health care decision-making by consumers.

This book is a required book for a University class.
It is very well written and the author's opinion is backed by research from several different institutions. This book presents the problem of Disease Management and Population Health Management as a method of trying to control our escalating health care costs and assist the aging population and those with chronic medical problems.

This was a required textbook, and honestly after paying 80-something, I expected a bigger heavier text, but this book is well written, with succinct chapters, and it covers everything you need to know about Disease Mgmnt, Population Health, ROI, Wellness programs, how to design and evaluate a program, etc.

Pretty darn good!

When the Imperial prison barge Purge suffers thruster failure out in the boondocks, they appear to be in a lot of trouble. Hope presents itself in the form of an Imperial Star Destroyer that is nearby, apparently abandoned. And so, a team of engineers from the prison barge goes over to see if they can collect enough spare parts to repair their own ship. But, what the engineers find on the Star Destroyer is horror beyond their darkest nightmares!

OK, I must admit that I am often intrigued by crossover books - in this case one combining Star Wars and the popular zombie motif. Like all books, crossovers range from the ridiculous to the sublime, with the vast majority of them falling somewhere in between. As for myself, I found this book to be pretty darn good.

I thought that the author did a good job of combining Star Wars and zombies. I found the story to be reasonably written (the story has to be reasonable if it's going to be in Science Fiction), and yet nicely scary. Who was going to live and who was going to die? The author kept you guessing right up to the end of the book. Right, I really enjoyed this book, and don't hesitate to recommend it.

Not bad but could have been better.

Death Troopers holds much promise at the outset. Zombies in Star Wars. Need I say more? And there are zombies. My main problem is it takes so long to see them. There are 234 pgs in the novel but the Zombies only appear on page 133. I don't know about you but I want to see zombies no more than 60 pgs in (1/4), not halfway.

I was also unsatisfied with the ending. Still and all it held my attention. It was also cool to see Han and Chewbacca. Both are well written and act the way you'd expect them too, especially pre-carbonite Han.

How cool would it have been to have Boba Fett instead of Han and Chewie?

Fett - "You paid me to bring the prisoners in alive, now you want me to kill them?"
Vader - "It shouldn't be too difficult, they're already dead."
Fett - "I'm chargin you double!"
Vader - "As you wish."

Worth the read.

The first quarter or so of this book is a guide to zoning regulation as traditionally practiced in the United States. Then, Fischel addresses the following issues (taking many detours along the way):

1. Why did zoning became popular when it did (the 1910s and 1920s)? Before then, most people walked to work, and so the idea of separating housing from commerce would have been anathema. But in the 1920s, the rise of trucking and of buses meant that industry and apartments could locate in suburban parts of town. Both were anathema to suburbanites- industry because of noise and pollution, apartments because of the prospect of low-income people nearby. So suburbs created zoning to keep these uses out- and then the zoning power made it more attractive for neighborhoods to be independent suburbs, since small places could control land use rather than being limited by citywide interests. So suburbs created zoning which created more suburbs.

2. Why did zoning become stricter in the past several decades? Fischel mentions a variety of factors. Interstate highways shifted jobs to suburbia, which meant that auto ownership grew, which meant that lower-income workers found suburbs more attractive and could commute to suburbs more easily, which in turn meant that suburbs had to be innovative (i.e. stricter) to keep them out. In addition, the rise of environmentalism gave suburbanites an excuse to keep out development without seeming selfish. Inflation led to rising home values, which caused homeowners to be more sensitive to housing values, which in turn caused them to make zoning more restrictive in order to preserve their gains.

3. Why has zoning become especially strict on the coasts? Fischel suggests that the popularity of local referenda cause restriction in the West (since restrictions tend to be popular with homeowners, who are the majority of voters), and that the high number of small suburbs causes restriction in the North (because the smaller the town the less likely it is to consider the impacts of regionwide high housing costs). By contrast, Southern metro areas tend to have fewer municipalities, and most southern suburbs are part of a 500-square-mile city or a large unincorporated county. Such large governments are more likely to balance homeowner interests against the regionwide interest in affordable housing, and as a result zone less strictly.

Fischel also discusses possible remedies for the costs of exclusionary zoning. However, this discussion is much skimpier than his discussion of causes- perhaps because he doesn't have much hope.

Great comprehensive guide to the R and C107

This book is an extremely comprehensive review of the 107 series, from its inception, details about the car, its changes over the years and successor. This book is not a buyers guide, so buy it if you're interested in the car, not looking to buy one. It also covers the rally cars etc.

I would also add that it is written from a worldwide point of view which is great - so many of these Mercedes books are very USA model centric - this book take a very comprehensive worldwide view. On the downside, there are some inaccuracies for the Australian spec models which were different to the USA ones (e.g. no CAT until 1986), but overall the book is very good.

The book also contains information about product numbers and specs for each year. These are spread throughout the narrative instead of being in table form for comparisons.

overall I'm very happy with this book.

Some things get better with age.Brain Long Who lives with his wife in Japan has long been a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast and owner of the R107 Coupe 450SLC and the 450SL touring sports car. With his connections to Mercedes-Benz archives comes a new book revealing the birth of this model, a transfer of the W113 SL Pagaoda
from 1963 to 1989 and perhaps the longest running SL produced in Mercedes-Benz history 18 year, so you can expect a lot of small to big changes before the mold's got thin. today these are considered the next young classic from Mercedes-Benz.

Brain Long goes into much detail both mechanical and also add some history that happened during the periods of time so you don't get board. there is much to learn from his research. I will lease it to you to decide.included are different color codes and upholstery for each year with a bi line of information that grabs at you. This is a book that has to be read like drinking fine wine . you can not take it all in at once because their is so much to be learned till the last of the 560SL and classic SLC coupes.

If you are a fan of the SL Sports car in august of this year will debut another book on the W113 SL Pagaoda 230SL ,250SL ,and some touches on the 280LS. own them both and you can instantly tell you neighbors what and how and why about their car , that will stop them in their tracks. may Be even get them to buy
another before the prices zoom up again. with so many build looking for orginal ones is a challenge . they are out there and command the same no less price when new if keep in pristine condition .they are also an excellent car for your son or daughter going off to college. Build like a tank safety was the primary focus on this car so having one as an enjoyable summer car with the hard top removed.

This is a "must have" book for any owner or person interested in the R107 series Mercedes SL's. Book was in new condition and it's an enjoyable read, whether you are a long time Mercedes owner and familiar with the marque or a newbie getting interested.
